Information of Playas del Coco

Playa del Coco is 260km. northeast of San Jose, an easy drive on paved roads. It is only 35km to the west of Liberia, and just 20 minutes from the Daniel Oduber International Airport.

The city and the beach were named for the quantity of coconut palms that fill the region. El Coco City is characterized by its fishing, which continues to be an important way of life, clearly seen by the fishing boats that line the bay, though today tourism flourishes in the city and has taken the center stage.

The warm weather brings less annual rain than in many other cities throughout the country. During the dry season, from December to April, temperatures are usual between 82-90 ° F.

Coco Beach is the largest city in the Papagayo Gulf in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. The cities' infrastructure is very developed including roads in good conditions, pharmacies, banks, tour operators, and a large variety of shops, restaurants, bars, discotheques, casinos and hotels.

Playas del Coco is well known for its sport fishing, surfing, snorkeling, and scuba diving. PADI certification classes are offered daily. Daily surf expeditions also depart from Coco Beach, often to surfers' favorite spot, Witch's Rock, known for its spectacular waves.

Pelonas, Catalina Island, and Bat Island are ideal locations to observe turtles, sharks, and octopus in their natural environments and are all easily accessed from Coco Beach.
