Adorned with the "Blue Flag", given for its cleanliness and having water in perfect conditions, Playa Samara provides one of the best opportunities to enjoy water sports such as surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing and deep sea fishing, as well as other activities like horseback rides, canoe trips, and visits to waterfalls.

The small picturesque town of Samara Costa Rica is located in the Guanacaste province, south of the Nicoyan Penninsula. It is a short 4 hour drive from San Jose, or you can take a very short flight from San Jose or the Liberia International Airport, since Samara has its own runway for small planes.

In this small, tranquil, hillside town, you will find everything froma grocery store, souvenir shops, to restaurants, bars, and night clubs. The main road will take you straight to town, if you make a left before the main road you will drive along the beach where you will find many hotels and restaurants offering good prices to their visitors. This is also the road to the beautiful and luxurious Punta Islita Hotel and the charming Carrillo Beach.

Samara has a large variety of exotic plants and animals located in the 5 km along the edge of the coast and in its impressive coral reef, making it an ideal location to visit the national parks and natural reserves located nearby. You can also take a short boat ride to visit the famous antique Chola Island.

Nosara beach is just a short drive away, which like Playa Samara, has many hotels, cabins, restaurants, bars, and camping zones. The homes found in this progressive agricultural town include that of the current president, Oscar Arias Sánchez. At nearby Ostinal Beach, depending on the season, you can also observe turtle nesting.
